- can be disposable or reusable
- can have all in one or separate
- handles:

Use of clamps?
A
- all usually have diff uses for certain tissue types
- some are used for hemostasis
- others are used for resection and dissection

Diff types of clamps?
A
- needle drivers: fine needle drivers - for vascular surgery
- hemostat (aka mosquitos)
- kelley/pean: kelly = smaller, pean = larger ones (clamping umbilical cord)
- tonsil: finer tipped, longer, curved, used for dissecting, help w/ tying sutures
- babcock: bowel surgery
- allis: more traumatic, grabs better than babcock, pull skin edges together
- kocher: has tooth to grab on to fascia, used in ortho, general surgery, good traction
- right angles: dissecting tool, good to get around tissue w/
- sponge stick: used to retract tissue, dab off blood w/ sponge

A
- metzenbaum: finer end than mayo, dissecting out tissue
- cooley - longer than mayo, used for dissecting tissue
- mayo:
straight - for suture
curved - cutting thick tissue (hysterectomy)

A
handheld:
- richardsons
- deavers: abdominal surgeries
- malleable: bendable
- army-navy: superficial, hernia repair
- sweetheart retractor: longer than deavers
self-retaining:
- weitlaner
- gelpi
- large abdominal retractors

Diff types of forceps used?
A
- Debakey: non-traumatic to tissue (for fine tissue)
- adson: sewing skin
- rat tooth: skin, fascia, not to grab tissue, larger than addison
- russion: flat on end, pick up thick tissue, take out nodes
- Ferris smith: closing sutures - fascia
