Protect from scratches / weathering

how do you prefare something for finishes
sanding - all sanding should be done in the same direction of the grain to avoid scrathing
white spirit should be used to wip away any remaining dust before the finish is applied
how can you apply finishes

what is pressure impregnation
wood is placed in a cyliner, which is sealed
vacuum is applied and the cylinder flooded with preservative
pressure is raised until the wood can no longer take any more
particular type of pressure treatment = tanalising
what is tanalising
creates wather resistent timber used outdoors
- garden fences and decking
what is marine varnish suitable for
woods that are outdoors
