if the surface area is larger, how fast is the diffusion rate?
A
the larger the surface area of the membrane, the faster the rate of diffusion rate. this is because more particles can pass through at once.

what happens to the SA : VOL ration as the cell gets bigger?
A
it decreases.

how do you work out the SA : VOL ratio?
A
you find the surface area of each side.
you work out the total surface area.
then the volume.
and then you get the ration from those answers.
e.g. a cube with 2mm sa each side 2 x 2 = 4mm^2 total sa 4 x 6 = 24mm^2 volume 2 x 2 x 2 = 8mm^3 24 / 8 = 3 so the ratio will be 3:1
