Surface Anatomy Of The Brain Flashcards
What is the sulci?
Infoldings of the brain. Often used to demarcate (mark the boundaries of) different functional areas.
What is gyri?
Sticky out bits between sulci. These are areas of functional grey matter. Adjacent gyri may have different functions.
What is the frontal lobe involved with?
Movement, decision making, problem solving and planning.
What area of the frontal lobe is the primary motor cortex?
Pre-central gyrus.
What is the function of the pre-central gyrus?
Involved in executing voluntary motor movements.
What is the parietal lobe involved with?
Receiving and processing sensory information.
What is the post central gyrus responsible for?
The site is the primary somatosensory cortex which is responsible for detecting sensory modalities such as touch, temperature, pressure and pain.
What is the occipital lobe responsible for?
Visual processing, visual information is sent to the parietal and temporal lobes for further processing.
What is the temporal lobe involved in?
Memory, hearing, emotion and language.
