Patient/Client Management Model - PT vs PTA
PT does it all
PTA = intervention is primary area in which they can participate
Initiative with APTA - Tricare
Right now Tricare does not reimburse services by PTA - APTA has made it an initiative to get this changed
PTA - data collection
PTA can use and obtain data to make real time decisions - something they will use right then
Their data collection is not used to help progress the patient treatment though
PT and PTA - Plan of Care
With PT plan of care we are broad and then the PTA can pick something that fits in the broad categories and they can also decide how much assistance is needed, or how many reps and stuff - if a category is not listed though, they cannot add a category without signed permission of PT
PT role in direction and supervision of PTA - regardless of setting, ONLY PT can do the following
- Interpretation of referrals when available
- Initial examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and prognosis
- Development or modification of a POC
- Determination of when it is okay to delegate something to a specific person
- Re-exam of patient (in light of goals and POC)
- Establishment of discharge plan and documentation of discharge summary/status
- Oversight of all documentation for services rendered to each patient
