Poor supply of healthcare examples
Low ratios nurse/people ratio
Poor equipment etc

So high absenteeism.
There is also the idea that even if present, low quality medical care is common
Evidence (2)
Tanzania - only 46% people receiving malaria treatment actually had malaria! (Similar to self diagnonis where only 36% actually had)
India - only 3% get diagnosis, but 38% get prescribed drip or injection!
Large public health investments - e.g Malaria eradication
Worldwide campaign - Spraying walls etc to kill parasites
Adult vs child exposure to malaria i.e effect malaria has on them.
Adult - missed work days/lower productivity during recovery
Child - affects physical development and HC, impacting long run maximum productivity.
Bleakley research design
DID - looked at before and after campaign. And at old vs young people.
Findings:
US young born after campaign (where no more malaria) earn 10-20% more than older cohorts. (Shows eradicating allowed productivity long term maximisation). Probability of childhood infection 0.3 (15/0.3)
For Brazil 25-28% more than older cohorts.
