Supply Instant Energy Flashcards
What happens at the start of exercise?
Immediate regeneration of the ATP
How is immediate regeneration of ATP achieved?
Through using creating phosphate
What is creating phosphate?
Substance stored in muscles that can be hydrolysed to release energ
What is Creatine Phosphate triggered by?
The formation of ADP therefore Creatine phosphate breaks down as soon a exercise starts
Equation
Creatine Phosphate + ADP = Creatine + ATP
What is ATP/PC system?
Reactions that do not require oxygen and provide energy for 10 seconds of intense exercise.
Why can’t aerobic respiration meet the demands for energy at the start of exercise?
Supply of oxygen to muscles is insufficient. Lungs and circulation are not delivering oxygen to the muscles fast enough therefore ATP is regenerated without oxygen
What allows regeneration of ATP
First the ATP/PC system then anaerobic respiration then there will be an increase in blood supply to the muscles ensuring high oxygen supply to the muscle cells then aerobic respiration can regenerate ATP as quickly as it is being broken down.
