What is co-management?
The physical therapist shares responsibility for the individual with another professional who is also managing that individual.
What is consultation?
PT renders professional expert opinion/advice or seeks consultative services from another provider to inform PT POC. PT shares responsibility for the individual with the consultant.
4 options in referral for PT

- Receive an individual referred from another provider who chooses not to continue treating the individual
- Receive an individual from another provider who continues to treat the individual

- General supervision is required for PTAs in all settings except private practice (which requires direct supervision) unless state practice requirements are more stringent, in which case state or local requirements must be followed.
- The services of a PTA shall not be billed as services incident to a physician/NPP’s service, because they do not meet the qualifications of a therapist.
- Cannot bill anything the PT aide does because it is not considered skilled care
