Superstructure Flashcards
Where would you typically see an RC Frame?
Medium-High Rise commercial or residential projects
How long does concrete take to cure?
Set: 24-48 hours`
Full cure: 28 days
What are the advantages of using precast concrete frame?
Produced in factory-controlled conditions
Eliminates curing times and formwork
Can be assembled in cold weather and generally by semi-skilled labour
What types of upper floor are available?
In-situ reinforced concrete – can be ribbed or waffled to reduce depth and weight (effectively a honey comb effect)
Pre-cast concrete – for example, pot and beam composite floor.
Profiled steel deck (Metsec) acting as permanent soffit and formwork. In-situ concrete in-fill. Principally used on steel framed buildings.
What is slip forming?
× A method for constructing a repetitive structure such as a core, lift shaft or stairwell.
× The formwork is constantly moving upwards, approx. 1” every 10mins.
What is jump forming?
× Jump forming is where a significant height of concrete is cast and left to cure. × The whole formwork module is then moved up and repeated.
What is a traditional roof built up of?
Purlin Joist Strut Rafter Hanger
What is cross laminated timber?
Glued together panels of timber to provide greater strength
