What is site investigation and why is it undertaken?
A
- help to determine suitability of a site for development
- ascertain ground conditions, foundation design/selection, build up of substrata, ensure that foundation can withstand dead/wind loads with no settlement

A
Soil types will have an affect on the type of foundation that is selected

What is a field study and whats included?
A
A field study is essentially visiting the site and surrounding area, this includes:
- site visit
- site characteristics (logistics, neighbours, infrastructure)
- H&S hazards
- Ground conditions, water table and soil type determination
- Trial pits/bore holes
- Comtamination
- Flood potential
- demolition
