Superior Medistinum Flashcards
Superior Vena Cava
Formed from the right and left brachiocephalic veins
-which are formed from the union of the internal jugular vein and subclavian vein on that side
Right and left phrenic nerves
Posterior to the subclavian veins
Left Vagus Nerve
Posterior to the brachiocephalic vein.
-located in the loose connective tissue just medial to the mediastinal pleura, so you may see them through this tissue
Ascending Aorta (curves posteriolaterally forming the aortic arch which gives off 3 branches)
Brachiocephalic Trunk: terminates into right subclavian artery and right common carotid artery
Left common carotid artery
Left subclavian artery
Ligamentum Arteriosum
Connecting the pulmonary trunk to the arch of the aorta
-left vagus nerve passing across the lateral surface of the aortic arch
Left Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve
Wraps around the ligamentum arteriosum to ascend posterior to the arch
