Q

3 benefits and application of chlorophyll?

A
  1. Detoxification - chlorophyll can bind to carcinogenic chemicals like high temp cooked meat, smoked and grilled meat + down regulate phase 1 liver enzymes (CYP450) and induce phase 2
  2. Antioxidant
  3. Alkalising
  4. Promote wound healing
  5. Natural deodorant (100-200mg tablets a day)
  6. Reduce inflammation (TNF)
  7. Support ATP (Mg)

Q

Name 3 benefits/applications of seaweed

A
  • Antioxidant => Fucoxanthin (carotenoid) found in brown seaweeds like wakame
  • Anti-inflammatory => reduce production of COX2 and NF-Kb
  • Low Thyroid function => iodine and tyrosine (Bladderwrack - brown)
  • Healthy weight management => Fucoxanthin increase expression of UCPI a key molecule in thermogenesis + low cal. + high fibres minerals and vitamins
  • GIT health => fibre, SCFA
  • Skin => eczema, acne and psoriasis

Q

What is the difference between spirulina and chlorella ?

A

Spirulina no cellulose, single cell easy to digest

Chlorella similar nutrition to spirulina but tough cellulose wall - need to be pulverised to increase bioavailability

Q

Spirulina and Chlorella energetics and nutrition

A

Energetics: yin deficiency, cooling, excess heat - flushed face, irritability and anger

Nutrients: 60% bioavailable protein (all AAs)

Spirulina => B1, B2, B3, A, K, beta carote, iron, copper, zinc, Ca, Mg, K, Chlorophyll

Chlorella => Very high in D2, B12 (220mg/100g), highest chlorophyll in plant, B1, B2, B3, B6, iron Zinc, phosphorus, Mg

Q

3 Benefits/Application of Spirulina

A
  • Detox - accumulate heavy metals in body
  • Immune system enhancing: increase NKC activity
  • Anti-inflammatory decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting NF-kB and COX 2 pathways
  • Anti cancer - phycocyanin
  • Exercice and performance - increase endurance and reduce oxidation
  • Lower LDL increase HDL
  • anti allergic (rhinitis)
17
Q

Dosage for Spirulina and adverse effects

A

1-8g/day (1 tbsp - 7g)

diarrhoea, bloating, flatulence, oedema

18
Q

3 benefits/application for chlorella

A
  • heavy metal chelator
  • detox (after radiation treatment)
  • anti diabetic => influence genes GLUT4 involved in insulin signalling and glucose uptake => PCOS and insuline resistance
  • iron deficiency anaemia => B12, iron and folate
  • Cancer => reduce radiotherapy side effects
  • metabolise estradiol to less potent form (good in oestrogen dominance like endometriosis, breast cancer and fibroids)
19
Q

For which condition would you recommend chlorella ?

A

PCOS, insuline resistance, endometriosis, breast cancer, radiotherapy cancer patient, iron deficiency anaemia

20
Q

for which condition would you recommend Spirulina?

A

Exercice and performance, heavy metal toxicity, chronic inflammation

21
Q

dosage of chlorella?

A

2-3g / day (start with 1/2 tsp)
