Malassezia furfur:
Lipophilic yeast found as normal flora on the skin
Cause :
Pityriasis Versicolor
Pityriasis folliculitis
Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Systemic to infection
Tinea versicolor :
Very common disease caused by lipophilic yeast Malassezia furfur, appears as patch lesion on neck back and chest and shoulders, Asymstoic
Cilincle manifestation of tinea versicolor:
Macule
White cream pink red brown scale painless and not itching
Pityriasis Folliculitis
Also, malaseezia folliculitis is seen in patients who are severely ill or patients after sun exposure
Follicular papules
Back neck and upper arm
Itchy
Lab diagnosis of Malassezia furfur:
Sampling
Direct
Culture test: For systemic infection by sheep blood agar
White piedra :
Caused by trichosporon begelii
Common in younger adults irregular soft nudules
Lab diagnosis for white piedra:
Sample =hair
Direct microscopy
Culture: white deep cream colored
Black piedra
Caused by Piedra hortae
Sample =hair
Direct microscopy
Culture test =primary isolation media
Tinea nigra:
Caused by Exophilia werneckii
