Superficial extrinsic back muscles Flashcards
trapezius O
- medial third of the superior nuchal line,
- external occipital protuberance,
- ligamentum nuchae,
- spinous processes of vertebrae C7-T12
trapezius I
- lateral third of the clavicle,
- medial side of the acromion and 3. the upper crest of the scapular spine
trapezius action
- Superior fibers elevate the scapula;
- lower fibers depress the scapula; middle part retracts scapula;
- upper and lower fibers work together to rotate the glenoid surface superiorly (arm up movement)
trapezius N
- motor: spinal accessory (XI),
- proprioception: C3- C4
trapezius artery
- transverse cervical a.;
- dorsal scapular a.,
- posterior intercostal a.
lat. dorsi. O
- vertebral spines from T6- 12,
- thoracolumbar fascia;
- posterior third of the iliac crest,
- lower 3 or 4 ribs, sometimes from the inferior angle of the scapula
lat. dorsi. I
floor of the intertubercular groove on the humerus
lat. dorsi action
extends, adducts, and medially rotates the arm
lat. dorsi. innervation
thoracodorsal nerve (C6,7,8)
lat. dorsi. artery
- thoracodorsal a.,
- dorsal perforating branches of 9th, 10th and 11th posterior intercostal,
- subcostal and first three lumbar arteries
rhomboid major origin
spines of vertebrae t2-t5
rhomboid major insertion
medial border of the scapula INFERIOR to the spine of the scapula
rhomboid minor origin
inferior end of the ligamentum nuchae
spines of vertebrae C7-T1
rhomboid minor insertion
medial border of the scapula at the ROOT of the spine of the scapula
rhomboid major/minor action
retracts scapula and rotates the scapula inferiorly
rhomboid major/minor artery
dorsal scapular artery
levator scapulae origin
posterior tubercles of C1-C4 vertebra
levator scapulae insertion
medial border of scapula - spine to the superior angle
levator scapulae action
elevates medial part of scapula –> causes an inferior rotation of the glenoid cavity
levator scapulae nerve
dorsal scapular nerve (C4,c5)
anterior primary rami of c3 & c4
levator scapulae artery
dorsal scapular artery
rhomboid major/minor innervation
dorsal scapular nerve (C4,C5)
