Superficial back muscles Flashcards
Trapezius ascending part action?
draws scapula medially downward
Trapezius transverse part action?
draws scapula medially
Trapezius descending part action?
- scapula obliquely upward
- rotates glenoid cavity superiority
- tilts head to same side
- rotates it to opposite
Trapezius ascending part innervation?
Trapezius transverse part innervation?
Trapezius descending part innervation?
spinal accessory for all 3
Levator scapulae action?
- scapula medially upward
- inferior angle medially
- inclines neck to same side
Levator scapulae innervation?
dorsal scapular
Rhomboid major and minor action? Nerve?
- steadies scapula
- draws scapula medially upward
- dorsal scapular nerve
Latissimus dorsi action? Nerve?
- internal rotation
- adduction
- extension
- respiration (“cough muscle”)
- Thoracodorsal nerve
Teres major action? Nerve?
- internal rotation
- adduction
- extension
- Lower subscapular nerve
What are the three types of interactions between latissimus dorsi and the inferior angle of the scapula?
- Type 1: Direct Attachment (muscular slips are anchored directly onto the inferior angle of the scapula.
- Type 2a: Indirect Attachment (few muscle fibers with a soft, fibrous link between the two (fascia))
- Type 2b: No Attachment (a bursa and no connective tissue between the two. 21% of the population had no attachment at all)
The majority of people (79%) had either a Type 1 (direct, 43%) or Type 2a (indirect, 36%)
Thoracodorsal nerve is off of what cord?
the posterior cord (UTLRA)
Lower subscapular nerve is off of what cord and what muscle?
posterior cord subscapular muscle
Shoulder girdle elevators:
- Rhomboid major
- Rhomboid minor
- Levator scapulae Trapezius (superior part)
Shoulder girdle depressors:
- Trapezius (inferior part)
- Pectoralis minor
Shoulder girdle superior rotators:
- Serratus anterior
- Trapezius (superior part)
