Superficial back muscles Flashcards
TRAPEZIUS medial
medial third of superior nuchal line; external occipital protuberance; nuchal ligament; spinous processes of C7-T12
TRAPEZIUS lateral
lateral third of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
TRAPEZIUS innervation
spinal accessory nerve (CN 11) for motor fibers while C3 and C4 spinal nerves are for pain and proprioception
TRAPEZIUS vascularization
transverse cervical artery
TRAPEZIUS function
descending part elevates, ascending part depresses, and middle part retracts scapula; descending and ascending parts act together to rotate glenoid cavity superiorly
LATISSIMUS DORSI medial
spinous processes of inferior 6 thoracic vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, and inferior 3 or 4 ribs
LATISSIMUS DORSI lateral
floor of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
LATISSIMUS DORSI innervation
thoracodorsal nerve (C6, C7, C8)
LATISSIMUS DORSI vascularization
thoracodorsal branch of the subscapular artery
LATISSIMUS DORSI function
extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus; raises body toward arms during climbing
LEVATOR SCAPULAE medial
posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C4
LEVATOR SCAPULAE lateral
medial border of scapula superior to root of scapular spine
LEVATOR SCAPULAE innervation
dorsal scapular (C4, C5) and cervical nerves (C3, C4)
LEVATOR SCAPULAE vascularization
dorsal scapular artery
LEVATOR SCAPULAE function
elevates scapula and rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating scapula
