Sunderland Flashcards
how does the Astra zeneca vaccine work
vaccine is made from a modified adenovirus which causes the common cold in chimpanzees
How does Pfizer vaccine work
harmless piece of messenger RNA (mRNA). The COVID-19 mRNA teaches cells in the body how to create an immune response to the virus that causes COVID-19.
How does moderna vaccine work
mRNA
What is the teaching style
PBL, improving problem-solving skills, teamwork and communication.
Why Sunderland?
teaching style (PBL), intergrated, extracurricular activities (societies e.g. medcial ones like GP), new facilities, There’s a shortage of doctors here in the North East, which means you’ll be helping to address a national imbalance,
How does a vaccine work
Inactivated form of pathogen injected. Antigens recognised as foreign by t cell. Clonal selection in choosing antibody. Clonal expansion with producing more antibodys. When fought pathogen off memory cels are made. If caught again then more antobodies can be produced quicker so patient gets less ill and is unwell for shorter mount of time so less likely to pass illness on.
Should vaccinations be compolsury?
Yes: saves money, lives, decreases likelihood of mutation
No: autonomy, astra zeneca with blood clotting and reactions, against religion, long term side effects unknown, weakened immune system
Solution: compulsory with a few exceptions, increase education. Are enough people vaccinated to get herd immunity? fake news.

How do mRNA based vaccines work
mRNA created in a laboratory to teach our cells how to make a protein. produce a harmless piece of what is called the spike protein(found on covid). After the protein piece is made, our cells break down the mRNA and remove it. ells display the spike protein piece on their surface. Our immune system recognizes that the protein doesn’t belong there. This triggers our immune system to produce antibodies and activate other immune cells to fight off what it thinks is an infection. This is what your body might do to fight off the infection if you got sick with COVID-19. (memory cells).
why are vaccines necessary despite already having had illness
Booster, improves immune response because memoty cells don’t last forever. immune memory may not have efficeintly been create.
Teams involved with cancer patient in emergency department
Register, triage, assessor, doctor, oncology. Depends on the type of cancer, what the complication is, do they need to travel somehwere, what stage is the cancer. why they have come in. surgeon, radiologist, , medical oncologist (use radio/chemo to treat), radiation oncologist and clinical nurse specialist. Some will include a palliative care doctor, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, dietician, radiation therapist or psychologist, social worker. MENTAL HEALTH.
Organ transplant ethics
family can overturn decision if not told, say this to patient. Helps them understand why and offer more information on the subject. Advise to say if it is something they are eligible and definetly want to do (let them to find all the info) they compotent.
1)Teamwork
Budget. Attention to detail, deadlines, targets, listening (ideas/concerns/strengths), submanagers, timings, health and safety and hygeine
2) Scenario
How you feeling? Symptoms/concerns, Idk what it is but should get it checked out incase it gets worse, sort straight awayreassure concerns every situ different
