General Flashcards
4 pillars of medical ethics
Beneficence, Non-maleficence, Autonomy and Justice
What is beneficence
doing good. Consider: will it resolve and is proportional to the problem? Is the outcome in line with patients expectation/treatment?
What is non-maleficence
to do no harm or allow harm through neglect. Consider: associated risks, do I posses the skills/knowledge required, is the patient being treated with dignity and respect, are they put at risks due to other factors?
What is autonomy
Giving the patient to choose freely where they are able. Are they actively involved in diagnosis and treatment? Explain advantages and disadvantages. Can patient evaluate/retain information? Has consent been provided?
What is justice
Ensuring fairness. Is it compatible with the law and patients rights? DOES NOT unfairly contradict human rights, prioritize one group over another . Can it be justified in terms of overall benefit to society.

rising attendance, fewer hospital bed, ageing population, unnecessary A&E attendance, staff shortages
A&E solutions
Difference between the roles of doctors and nurses
Learn content in more detail (greater understanding) greater responsibility/more leaership (i.e. design care plans and nurses carry them out), provide the path to recovery, lead me open to research.
Parkisnon’s MOOC
Cystic fibrosis
Genetically inherited disease affecting the movement of salt and water out of the cell causing a build up of thick mucus particularly in the lungs. The cilia can not waft the mucus out of the cell causing the bacteria to remain in the lungs and being more susceptible to infections. Cilia is also damaged.
