Q

Definition of “chunk”

A

“chunk”: a chunk of language is a common partnership between two or more words. Some of the many alternate terms for ‘chunk’ are: multi-word vocabulary, lexical phrase and formulaic sequence. Chunks include idioms, proverbs, common collocations (e.g., heavy rain) and phrasal verbs. It is assumed that a chunk is stored in memory as if it were a single word.
