Summary Mirrors and Lenses Flashcards
What is transparency, give some examples?
Transparent:
○ (of a material or article) allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.
○ Materials like air, water, and clear glass are called transparent. Whenlightencounters transparent materials, almost all of it passes directly through them.
Opaque
When light cannot pass through an object, you cannot see past it.
Translucent
When some light can pass through the object, meaning you can see the object but has a strong colour.
Transmission
The act when light goes through and travels through a medium or an object.
Reflection
When the object reflects the light waves.
Refraction
When the light passes something through a prism and bends
Absorption
When the object absorbs the light waves and they don’t bounce away.
Diverging light
Diverging light is when the light is being sent out in many different directions and it goes away from its origin point
Converging light
When the light travels through the lens and it “converges” into a single point of light. This is how magnifying glasses can concentrate light into a single point.
Concave surface
A concave surface is any surface which is bend inwards in a certain angle.
Convex surface
A convex surface is a mirror or surface which goes outwards to make it look rounded.
Concave lens
A concave lens makes the light which enters it diverge out and spread out
Convex lens
A lens which goes outwards in a curved shape. When light enters it, it comes out in a single point
Concave mirror
It a mirror which is bent inwards and when light hits it, it bounces to converge into a single point.
