What are the risk factors for suicide?
A
- Male sex
- Over 40
- Depression and previous attempts
- Ethanol, drug use and sickness
- Loss of rational thinking
- Social isolation, unemployment and no hobbies
- Organised plan
- Recent change in life circumstances

What would you want to know about the suicide attempt?
A
- How was it done? Why did they do?
- How long had they been planning it for?
- Did they leave a note and prevent others from findings them (closing blinds etc)?
- How does the patient feel now about the attempt? Would they do it again?

What are important things to consider for future suicide risk?
A
- Risk factors for depression and suicide
- Lack of support network
- Insight: do they understand that they will need help?

How would you manage someone after a suicide attempt?
A
- Treat underlying disease (counselling, medication)
- Specialist groups could deal with specific problems (alcohol, relationship)
- Methods to reduce stressors and financial problems
- CBT
