High-risk groups include young and middle-aged men, people in contact with the criminal justice system and specific occupation jobs (high stress levels)
Describe the factors that might offer a person some protection against committing suicide

Explain how to conduct a suicide risk assessment
Assessing Risk of Suicide
- ask about their thoughts about death or suicide, if they feel like life is worth living,
- previous suicide attempmts, or family history of suicide
Assessing Risk Severity
- ask if they have considered a method, or made any preparations
Assessing Protective Factors
- ask about what stops them from carrying out their plans, anything that makes life worth living?
Explain the similarities anddifferences between suicide and self-harm
The main difference is the intent.
Suicidal - experiencing severe life stressors and/or mental health disorders, causing unbearable pain.
Self-harm - way to cope with their feelings and stressors. Tthe pain from self-injury reassures them that they are alive. The adrenaline “rush” can easily become addictive and highly dangerous.
