Mini-Mental State Examination - used to screen for cognitive impairment, especially for dementia /30

The pt is asked when, where etc, asked to copy shapes, repeat items, count backwards etc

25-30 Questionably significant
20-25 Mild
10-20 Moderate
0-10 Severe

A

General Practitioner assessment of Cognition - screening tool for cognitive impairment /9

Name and address for recall, time orientation, clock drawing, information

If patient scores 9, no significant cognitive impairment and further testing not necessary
If patient scores 5-8, more information required. Proceed with informant section - If patient scores 0-3 in this, cognitive impairment is indicated
If patient scores 0-4, cognitive impairment is indicated. Conduct standard investigations.
