Reversible causes of cardiac arrest
4Ts
thrombosis
tamponade
toxins
tension pneumothorax
types of shock
cardiogenic, hypovolemic
septic, anaphylactic
neurogenic
cardiogenic shock
e.g. PE
reduced BP
tachy
fluid retention - treat with dobutamide/ noradrenaline
hypovolemic shock
tachy
treatment- fluid and blood replacement
septic shock
gram =+ve bacterial
low BP
tachy
fever
sepsis 6- treatment
neurogenic shock
bradycardia - loss of sympathetic so parasympathetic takes over
treatment- vasopressors (dopamine, noradrenaline, vasopressin)
stillborn
baby dies after 24 weeks of pregnancy and before or during birth
Lifestyle advise to reduce stillbirth risk
sleep on L side in third trimester
Risk factors for stillbirth
placental abruption, infection, cord prolapse, idiopathic hypoxia–acidosis and uterine rupture
Debrief arrangements
- Skin Biopsy
- Placenta Histopathology
- Blood Results including infection screen, thromphilia screen, blood group, diabetes and thyroid screen
- Microbiology results
SUDI
all infant deaths which happen suddenly, and for which there is no apparent reason, are unexpected
2-6 months most common
SIDS
‘sudden infant death syndrome’ is occasionally used where there is no pathology or risk factors present
RF- overheating, infection, preterm
male, small for age
