Q

How does succession continue on bear rocks?

A

1) area is colonised by pioneer species
2) change the enviromental conditions to make it less
hostile e.g. increase in nutrients
3) this allows other species to out-compete the preceeding species
4) this will continue until climax community is reached e.g. woodland

Q

What things happen when succession takes place?

A
  • soil depth / humus
  • water and nutrient availability
  • biodiversity
  • plant height
  • niches
  • light intensity at ground

all of these things will increase but light intensity at ground will decrease
