Introduction to Ecosystems Flashcards
What are ecosystems?
they are dynamic - they are changing constantly - the abundance and
distribution of organisms are controlled by biotic (living) and abiotioc (non-living)
factors
What is a population?
all organisms of a single species in a habitat
What is a community/
all the organisms of all the species in a habitat
What is a habitat?
the place where an organism lives
What is a niche/
the role of a species in an ecosystem - each species does different things
What is a trophic level?
each stage of the food chain e.g. producers -> primary consumer -> secondary consumer
What are the biotic and abiotic of rock pool?
- biotic - intraspecific competition e.g. seaweeds compete for light/nutrients
abiotic - ,temp, water depth, sunlight
What are the biotic and abiotic factors of playing field?
- biotic - interspecific competition - producers will compete for resoucres e.g. grass, daisies,
consumers eat producers - abiotic - rainfall, temperature, sunlight
What are the biotic and abiotic factors of large tree?
- biotic - insect eat leaves, birds eat insects
abiotic - rainfall / fire
