Eng ops, ALL personnel used to get 1st line in place
- FT2 nozzle should be used
- Eng SHALL NOT connect to hydrant until the fire is located. Most direct means to the fire will be determined before a line is stretched

What is Light Train?
- Only train operator and conductor on board
- Transport FD to extinguish small fires (1-2 cans)
- ONLY used if Chief in charge decides to use
- Shall NOT travel past next station w/out permission of Chief
- progress report ASAP but at least every 15 min
- If necessary to disembark Light Train a HT equipped member shall remain with train OPERATOR
- Apparatus of unit on Light Train shall remain at original location unless directed by Chief
Communications link while on Light Train
(FD thru train radio) to (TA Command) to (FD dispatch) to (Chief)
- FD has direct use of train operators radio
- Train operators radio is removable and can operate from any train operators compartment in any car
- Train conductor is equipped w/hand held radio w/similar capabilities
Cantenary Wires
- overhead wires delivering approx 12,000 VOLTS (12KV) of A/C
- lines retain residual static electricity after power removal (Class A employee required to ground the cantenary on the track where power was requested off
- **Minimum approach distance of 10’ from Cantenary wires
- **Hose streams should NOT be directed above train where cantenary wire and pantograph are
What is a Pantograph?
-Is an assembly mounted on top of locomotive that can be raised or lowered to make electrical co tact with cantenary line
What is “Stand by Power”?
480 VOLT A/C
- supplied by cable for refrigeration, lighting, AC and other components between runs
- Independent of cantenary and 3rd rail power
When can water application be considered on subway fire?
After power removed from 3rd rail, cantenary, and stand by.
-At this point the possibility of residual static electricity remains
Sound powered phones and standpipes in subways
- Standpipes located in LOCKED stainless steel cabinet, which can be opened using standard subway emergency exit key, and Will NOT contain hose
- Sound powered outlet jacks will be located in secure metal box, opened with 1620 key. In most cases box will be in standpipe cabinet. Does NOT include handset

- 7’ long w/ steps on front and flat surface backside

- when positioned against side or end subway car doors it will be approx 70 degree angle to roadbed. A notch cut in beams on one end help anchor ladder against car or platform.
