THREADS- thyroid, heart, rheumatoid, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, steroids (could be linked to their diagnosis, could impact prescriptions,
eg. Wouldn’t prescribe a patient with uncontrolled epilepsy hydrotherapy due to risk of having a fit)

- How long have you been taking codeine for? are you taking it now to manage your hip pain?
- Can you tell me how many times a day you are taking it?
- Can you tell me out of 10 what your pain is like without taking it and then Pain out of 10 when you are taking it?

- What are the physical demands of the job you are in?
- What does It feel like after that activity
- do you live somewhere that has stair you have to manage?
- what does a typical day for you look like?
- what are your hobbies and are you being prevented from taking part in them due to pain currently?

red flags
A
- Have you been feeling generally unwell recently?** (septic arthritis which is an infection of the synovial fluid & joint tissues or malignancy) **
- Have you unintentionally lost weight recently ? (malignancy)
- Compared to normal has your sleep changed are you finding it difficult to sleep? (septic arthritis, malignancy, fracture)
- Have you felt and pins and needle or numbness ?

history of present condition
A
- Would you say the pain stays in one location or does it radiate? (thinking neurological involvement)
- Does the pain come on after moving or doing any specific activity or would you say it is a constant pain? (establish nature of pain this answer will tell me if its mechanical)
- Have you seen any medical professionals previously about your hip pain?
- What are you currently doing to manage your pain?
- How long into the activity does pain come on? How long after the pain is brought on does it go away?
- 24 hour pattern pattern (listening for if its early morning pain that decreases after 30 minute I’m thinking osteoarthritis, if pain isn’t decreasing thinking rheumatoid arthritis and other pathologies)
- Pain at its worst
- Pain at its best
- Pain currently
