The subject matter of Cindy is a post-rhinoplasty face and through use of dramatic and grotesque bruising, the shocking reality, it effectively critiques modern beauty standards
Bandage/highlights?
The focal point of the subject matter is the patients bandage- the use of exaggerated highlights here makes the piece resemble an over-exposed photograph, this conveys the discomfort of the subject as the model is being photographed in a vulnerable post-surgery state.
Medical specimens?
The detail of the life-like skin texture allows influence of medical specimens and textbooks to be seen, showing savilles interest in real anatomy rather than the more appealing and less realistic portrayals of humans we usually see- this further conveys the theme of the subject matter ( beauty and body-image).
