Subject 2: an córas sláinte Flashcards
the health system is not above the recommendation of two people/ the health system isn’t worth talking about
níl an córas sláinte thar moladh beirte
The health system is one of the biggest stones on their list these days/ it is one of the greatest concerns today
Tá an córas sláinte ar cheann de na clocha is mó ar a bpaidrín na laethanta seo
mess
praiseach
long waiting lists
liostaí fáda feithimh
there is a sharp contrast between the public health system and the private system, look at the length of the queues for example
tá codarsnacht ghéar idir an córas sláinte poiblí agus an córas príobháideach, féach ar fhad na scuainí mar shampla
frozen with the cold
preachta leis an bhfuacht
left on trolleys in the passages for 24 hours
fágtha ar thralaithe sna pasáistí ar feadh 24 uair an chloig
lack of privacy and independence
easpa príobháideachais agus neamhspleáchas
waiting for ages for surgery due to a lack of doctors and nurses
ag fanacht lesi na cianta ar obráid de bharr easpa dochtúirí agus altraí
there is now a big demand for nurses and doctors in hospitals. the system can’t answer the demand.
tá éileamh mór ar altraí agus dochtúirí in ospidéil anois. ní féidir leis an gcóras an t-éileamh a fhreagairt.
seniors - our most valuable asset in the country
seanóirí - an seoid is luachmhaire atá againn sa tír
demand for domestic helpers and beds in nursing homes
éileamh ar chúntóirí baile agus leapacha i dtithe altranais
the health system is a mess.
There are so many problems to see.
is praiseach é an córas sláinte.
Tá an oiread sin fadhbanna le feiceáil.
A crazy atmosphere is created in hospitals.
since there is a lack of funding and money in the system, there is a great demand for beds in hospitals
Cruthaítear atmaisféar craiceáilte sna hospidéil.
ó tharla go bhfuil easpa maoinithe agus airgid sa chóras, tá éileamh mór ar leapacha in ospidéil
Patients lose their dignity and privacy
Cailleann othair a ndínit agus a bpríobháideacht
the disease rate was very high during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic and the hospitals became breeding grounds for disease.
bhí ráta an ghalair an-ard le linn bhuaic na paindéime coróinvíreas agus rinneadh na hospidéil ina n-áiteanna pórúcháin don ghalar.
breeding grounds for disease
áiteanna pórúcháin do ghalair

Galar tógálach
foreign doctors come to Ireland to work but their English is not good and they struggle with old people to talk to them
bíonn dochtúirí eachtranacha ag teacht go hÉirinn chun oibre ach níl a gcuid béarla go maith agus bíonn said ag streachailt le seandaoine chun labhairt leo

dochtúirí eachtranacha
The biggest visible problem/problem seen
is the treatment of old people in nursing homes
Is í an fhadhb is mó atá le feiceáil ná an chóireáil a dhéantar ar sheandaoine i dtithe altranais
A few years ago, I watched a documentary on RTÉ about the Leas Cross nursing home in north County Dublin.
Cúpla bliain ó shin, d’fhéach mé ar chlár faisnéise ar RTÉ faoi theach altranais Leas Cross i dtuaisceart Chontae Bhaile Átha Cliath.
It was seen/apparent that misconduct was taking place. The poor old people were treated terribly.
Bhí sé le feiceáil go raibh mí-iompar ar siúl. Caitheadh go uafásach leis na seandaoine bochta.
Many horrific images were seen, for example one woman was shown tied to a chair, others were being abused and fed against their will.
Chonactas go leor íomhánna uafásacha, mar shample taispéanadh bean amháin ceangailte do chathaoir, daoine eile á maslú agus á mbeathú in aghaidh a dtola.

food left by the old people on their plates was re-eaten the next day and they only had one bath every ten days.
bhí bia a d’fhág na seandaoine ar a bplátaí á athúsaid an lá dár gcionn agus ní raibh ach folcadh amháin acu gach deich lá.
ladies and gentlemen, listen to me when i say that old people are mistreated badly. Look at the health system.
A dhaoine uaisle, éist liom nuair a deirim go bhfuil droch-chóir ar sheandaoine. Féach ar an gcóras sláinte.
there is a long list of problems in the health system, like the demand for nurses, home assistants and doctors all over the country.
Tá liosta fada fadhbanna sa chóras sláinte, cosúil leis an éileamh atá ar altraí, ar chúntóirí baile agus ar dhochtúirí ar fud na tíre.
