Q

What is corrosion?

A

Loose rocks (sediment) are drifted by waves which crashes into cliffs (breaking parts away) and riverbanks (making the river wider).

Q

What is attrition?

A

Sediments which collide together, getting smaller and smoother until they turn into grit or sand.

Q

What is solution?

A

Acid contained in the water dissolves less resistant rocks such as limestone.

Q

What is hydraulic action?

A

The waters current falls into cracks in cliffs or riverbanks that are full of air. This compresses the air so the cracks get bigger.

What is weathering?

A

The breaking down of rocks but the fragments stay in situ.

Q

What is physical weathering?

A

Also known as freeze-thaw weathering, physical weathering is where water get trapped in cracks in cliffs or riverbanks. The water will freeze and expand by 9%, and the cracks get bigger.

Q

What is biological weathering?

A

Animals and plants burrow into the rock, causing it to break up and erode.

Q

What is chemical weathering?

A

If a rain loud forms in the presence of CO2, acid rain is formed. This, and acid in the river or sea will cause erosion of the riverbank (making it wider) and the cliff.

What is mass movement?

A

The movement of sediment or material downhill as a result of the force of gravity.

16
Q

What is flows?

A

Where masses of rock or soil, usually mixed with water, flow down hill like a liquid.

17
Q

What is soil creep?

A

Where individual soil particles move slowly down a slope.

18
Q

What is rock fall?

A

Rocks fall from the riverbank or cliff, into the river or sea.

19
Q

Define subaerial process.

A

A subaerial process is a process in which a combination of factors such as erosion, weathering and mass movement, work together to create land forms.
