in the south, like South Africa

Rwanda and Burundi, because they are right next to a big lake

Biofuels like wood and charcoal. A very major cause for deforestation

Where is Islam found?
In the North, Chad, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, etc. This religion was the first on in this area
Where is Christianity found?
In the South, brought by European settlers. Especially in the middle of the country, like Dem. Rep. of the Congo, Gabon, South Sudan, Lesotho, etc.
Where is Animism found?
they worship nature, mainly found in small tribal regions, especially in Madagascar and some in Togo and Benin.
What and where is the Sahel?
Transition ecological zone separating Sub-Saharan Africa with the Sahara.
Lingua Francas
Swahili- most widely used in Eastern Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Etc.
Tribalism:
Loyalty to the ethnic group rather than to the state. Can make it hard for central government, because tribes that don’t like each other were grouped together.
Economy
Mainly with Europe and the US, growing with China especially. During the 2000’s, grew 30% a year.
Berlin Conference
1884, No African Representatives were invited, but all the European leaders were. Split up Africa, make rules of what determined effective territory. Traded like game pieces.
Kleptocracy
National wealth does not stay. Ruled by someone who steals from the government. Very big problem in Africa. Lots of problems within a state.
Boko-Haram
terrorist group that operates out of Nigeria
