Stylised Movement Flashcards
What is stylised movement
Stylised movement is used to express abstract ideas. It can express ideas, emotions and relationships.
Mime
A stylised form of movement which is used to represent the illusion of reality. The 5 principles of mine are Slow, Precise, Exaggerated, Clear and Simple (SPECS)
Use of space
Awareness and use of the entire performance area.
Use of levels
Performers incorporate different heights (standing up high in a balcony, lying down on the floor, sitting on a chair etc)
Rhythm
Movement which follows a pattern or beat
Balance
An even distribution of weight
Timing
Moving or pausing at exactly the right moment.
Synchronisation
Consciously moving at the same rate and exactly together
Proxemics
The amount of space that people feel is necessary to set between themselves and others
Speed
The speed at which a character moves at (slow motion might draw attention to movement, moving fast might create a frantic feeling)
Use of direction
Moving in different directions (e.g. backwards to represent going back in time or maintain eye contact)
Positioning
Placement on stage (centre stage to draw all attention, downstage and closest to the audience to create impact and intimidate)
What is SPECS
SPECS stands for Slow, Precise, Exaggerated and Simple and this is to be used when doing Mime.
