Air/Ayre
madrigal which is usually performed as a solo with lute accompaniment. Can be a soloist with other istruments or voice without accompaniment. usually English.
Contemporary Jazz
Jazz music of the 80s onwards. This music is rooted in jazz but has a cleaner sound and more polished performance. Contains less improvisation than normal jazz and can incorporate Rock, Funk, and RnB influences
Anthem
Short sacred choral piece sung in ENGLISH. Can sung by choir unaccompanied or accompanied by an organ featuring solos. Protestant equivalent of a motet.
Ballett
Madrigal in strophic form which was danced to. features Fa-la-la at end of each verse
Chorale
German hymn tune. written is four parts for SATB. usually homophonic

Galliard
A renaissance court dance which follows a Pavan. A galliard is quick and lively with 3 beats in a bar.
Madrigal
A secular work in the Renaissance period. Polyphonic in style, using imitation. features include English text, word painting, through composed, usually sung a capella.
Motet
A sacred choral work from the Renaissance period. Latin text and polyphonic texture. usually acapella
Neo-classical
classical music from 1929 onwards. features styles and structure of earlier periods but combined with dissonant, tonal, and atonal harmonies.
Pavan
a renaissance court dance linked with the Galliard. the Pavan is slow with 2 beats in a bar
Renaissance
The style of music between medieval and baroque. Usually secular or renaissance dance music

A 20th century method of music composition in which the twelve notes of the chromatic scale are organised into a series or tone rown. This tone row can be organised
