Stuff I Don’t Know Flashcards
Equation for static pressure.
Density x gravitational acceleration x height
Equation for dynamic pressure
1/2 x density x velocity^2
How much does temperature drop by per kilometre?
Temp drops by 6.5 c per kilometre
What is the stagnation point
A stagnation point is a region of space around the aircraft where the velocity of the relative airflow is Zero. This results in a local increase in static pressure
Flow separation
The lower kinetic energy of laminar flows means it lacks the energy to flow from low pressure to high pressure as in the down wash. This causes air to flow against the flow of the aircraft and will be turbulent in nature. The streamlines over the wing will separate and flow over the turbulent air.
Lift is reduced and drag is increased.
What is an aerodynamically twisted wing.
The camber at the root is greater than at the tip. And the angle of incidence is constant across the wingspan.
Geometrically twisted wing.
The camber of the profile is constant across the wingspan. The angle of incidence is greater at the root than at the tip.
MAC (Mean Aerodynamic Chord)
The average chord length of a tapered or swept wing.
Sweep angle
Measured at 25% chord to root
Positive is swept rearwards.
What is washout also called?
Geometrically twisted wing
Aerodynamically twisted wing
Camber is big at root
What are methods of lift augmentation
Slots, slats, flaps, cuffs
