Demonstrate un-loading procedures for the M870 shotgun from a loaded chamber condition.

  1. Safety On
  2. Place weapon on LEFT hip with ejection port facing up.
  3. Place your left hand on the fore-end with your little finger resting below the fore-end, between fore-end and receiver.
  4. With right hand, depress the action bar lock allowing the fore-end to be released. Remove round from ejection port.
  5. Slowly move fore-end downward toward receiver.
  6. When your little finger meets the receiver, STOP.
  7. With your right hand, push the carrier inward to the UP position.
  8. Put the thumb of your firing hand over the back of the round in the magazine tube and pull the fore-end fully to the rear. This will release the first round.
  9. When the first round has been extracted from the magazine tube, depress the shell latch located on the right side of the receiver just inside and to the forward end of the loading port. This will release the second round from the magazine.
  10. Depress the shell latch for each succeeding round until the weapon is empty.

  5. Position safety to fire. Squeeze trigger; hammer should release to fire position.
  6. Position safety to safe.
  7. Ensure weapon is clear utilizing push pull method.

What is Remedial Action?

A

1-RACK: pull the fire-end fully to the rear
2-PUSH: insert reaction hand fingers into ejection port and firmly push round down onto carrier.
3-ROLL: keep reaction hand in position, roll shotgun over on ejection port side, check chamber for and remove any obstruction/round.
4-LOAD: Combat load new round from ammo pouch.
5-RUN: sharply move forward-end to forward position to chamber a new round.
6-READY: re-assess situation, continue firing if an appropriate target is present.
