What is a tooth preparation?
the mechanical alteration of a defective, injured, or diseased tooth where the placement of a restorative material reestablishes normal form and therefore reestablishes function including esthetic corrections, where indicated
Class I Restoration
Involves pits and fissures: occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth, occlusal 2/3rds of facial and lingual surfaces of posterior teeth, lingual surfaces of maxillary incisors
Class II Restoration
proximal surfaces of posterior teeth
Class III Restoration
proximal surfaces of anterior teeth that do not involve incisal edge
Class IV Restoration
proximal surface of anterior tooth that does involve incisal edge
Class V Restoration
gingival third of facial and lingual surfaces
Class VI Restoration
incisal edges of anterior teeth or cusp tips of posterior teeth
