What is ID?
Significantly sub average general intellectual functioning existing concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior and manifested during the developmental period that adversely affects a child’s educational performance.

What are standard deviations?
Used to describe how IQ scores vary from the average score.
What does a diagnosis of ID require?
IQ score approximately two standard deviations below the average.
What are the levels of ID?
Mild: 55-69 IQ
Moderate: 40-54 IQ
Severe: 25-39 IQ
Profound: below 25 IQ
What are a causes of ID?
Perinatal- Premature birth, birth injury, oxygen deprivation
Postnatal- Accident, illness, viral infection, lead poisioning, brain injury
What are educational approaches for ID?
Designing instruction to promote generalization of learning across environments.
