- simple or complex construction of assembled parts
working together for a specific purpose - purpose of the structures affects the form (shape) it takes

What are the three characteristics of a Solid structure?
A
- made from one piece of a solid material
- little or no space inside
- uses it’s mass to act against forces acting on it

A
dams, icebergs, pyramids, statues.

A
- outside layer holds the structure together
- can be made of one piece
- hollow on the inside
(often make good containers) - Usually strong AND light
- force is spread over the whole structure

A
- parts fastened together (components)
- can exist on its own (bike frame) or have a covering or skin (umbrella)
- frame supports the weight of the structure
