Practical Advantages?
Quick and Cheap- cheap to train interviewers and can only last a certain time due to closed questions.
Quantification- Easy due to closed questions.
Ethical Advantages?
Detachment- Participants are detached from interviewer and will not be impacted by ethical issues.
Theoretical Advantages?;
Reliability- All questions asked in the same way, research is easy to compare and replicate.
Validity- Achieves positivist validity by being measurable data.
Response Rate- Hard to turn down face to face request.
Practical Disadvantages?;
Inflexibility- unable to follow any interesting leads due to closed questions.
Ethical Disadvantages?
Sensitive- No rapport, difficult to discuss sensitive subjects.
Theoretical Disadvantages;
Response Rate-unrepresentative as those who cannot participate are WC
Validity- Lie or Misunderstand questions.
