What is a Structured Interview?
An interview that has set questions which have been designed in advance to produce quantitative data. - Verbal response.
An example of a Structured Interview:
Willmott and Young researched family structure in London where they gave participants the option of limited answers, finding that 72% of men helped with childcare at least once a week.
Advantages of Structured Interviews:
Questions quick to answer, no skills needed, no need to lie, informed consent, right to withdraw, easy to analyse. High in reliability.
Disadvantages of Structured Interviews:
Not valid, can only be in person, bias in creating questions, socially sensitive topics, cannot establish verstehen, inflexible.
