Q

What is the function of the retina?

A
  • Converts light that enters into your eye into electrical signals
  • These electrical signals are sent to the brain through the optic nerve and this is what allows us to see images
  • Photoreceptors are cells inside your retina that react to light and they change the light into an electrical signal

Q

How does AMD affect the eye?

A
  • Damages the macula
  • The retinal cells die and don’t reproduce
  • Wet AMD: the abnormal blood cells lead blood which leads to scarring of the macula and loss of central vision
