Q

how does cholesterol regulate membrane fluidity during low temperatures?

A
  • in low temperatures, phospholipids have lower kinetic energy & move lesser, causing the membrane to be less fluid
  • cholesterol increases membrane fluidity by preventing close packing of phospholipids, preventing membranes from freezing
