How do you image the brain?
A
- Direct investigation (autopsy)
- MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging), structure, fMRI (functional) and study activity
- CT (computerised tomography), many X-rays, scanned into third dimension.

Why don’t you try to name the ‘gross’ structure of the brain? CHALLENGE: Can you try to mention what they do?
A
- Cerebrum - voluntary action (memory, learning and thinking)
- Cerebellum - unconscious functions (posture, walking and involuntary movements)
- Medulla oblongata - autonomic control e.g heartbeat and breathing
- Hypothalamus - temperature and water balance
- Pituitary gland - stores and releases hormones to regulate bodily function
