Functions of nose and sinuses
A
- Warms and humidifies the air we breathe in
- Collects moisture from expired air to prevent excessive water loss
- Stiff hairs that grow at the vestibule filter large, harmful particles
- Smaller particles are deposited on the lining of the nose
- Epithelial lining of the nose is ciliated and mucociliary pathway clears nasal debris
- House the olfactory receptors and olfactory epithelium
Sinuses are out-pouching of nose
Most sinuses drain into middle meatus
Eustachian tubes open into the postnasal space
