A section of text that focuses on one main idea
Direct speech
Speech written down word for word in speech marks
Non chronological order
Events being told in a different order to when they happened
Chronological order
Events being told in the order they happen in
Sequence of events
The order in which things are narrated or described
Flash back
A section when we suddenly ‘go back in time’ and experience something that has already happened as if it was in the present
First person
When the writer includes themselves in what they are saying ‘i , we , us’
Second person
When the writer speaks directly to you or to someone else
Third person
The writer tells the reader about other people from.a distance.
Past tense
Narrating things that have happened all ready.
Present tence
Narrating things that are happening at the moment
Future tense
Narrating things that will happen at a future point
Juxtaposition
Two opposite or very different things placed near each other for effect
Sentence forms
Simple compound complex and minor
Time words
Words or phrases that relate to how time is passing
