What is Structuralism?
A perspective that is concerned with the overall structure of society; and see’s individual behaviour moulded by social institutions like family, education, the mass media and work.
How is the behaviour of the individual studied in Structuralism?
The way they act as their social identities are seen as being social forces which are external to the individual as the person is moulded and shaped by socialization.
According to structuralists individuals are like puppets whose strings are pulled by society
What does the term ‘Macro approach’ mean?
focus on the large scale structure of society as a whole, rather than individuals
What are the two varieties of structuralism?
Functionalism and Marxism
