Structural Organisation of Multicellular Organisms Flashcards
What is the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Organelles –> cells –> tissues –> organs –> organ systems –> organism
What is the place of organelles in the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Organelles are sub units of cells that are specialised for a particular function with the cell, activity coordinated by the nucleus.
What is the place of cells in the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Cells are the basic sub-unit of life. Many cells are specialised for a particular function.
What is the place of tissues in the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Similar specialised cells are grouped into tissues (eg, heart muscles cells from cardiac muscle tissue.) They form organs.
What is the place of organs in the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Made of several different tissues grouped together, organs perform a specific function. (eg. heart is made of muscle tissue, connective tissue and nerve tissue)
What is the place of organ systems in the hierarchal structure of multicellular organisms?
Organs systems are responsible for a major bodily function, they work together to perform all the necessary functions of the organism.
