What is chronological order?
Presenting the events in order of how the occur according to time.
What is the effect created by chronological order?
Helps the story make sense to the reader.
What is a flashback?
It is when you interrupt a sequence of events by going back in time.
What is the effect created by a flashback?
Gives context of the persons life, helps you have a deeper understanding of the character.
What is foreshadowing?
Hinting at what is going to happen later in the story.
What is the effect created by foreshadowing?
Makes the reader wonder about what will happen next, prepare the reader for something bigger.
What is a two-lined stanza called?
Couplets.
What is a three-lined stanza called?
Tercets.
What is a four-lined stanza called?
Quatrains.
What are the different rhyme schemes?
- AABB
- ABAB
- ABBA
- ABCB
What is the effect created by a rhyme scheme?
Catchy rhythm, makes it memorable.
What is iambic pentameter?
When each line has 10 syllables.
What is enjambment?
It is when a sentence or phrase in a poem runs over multiple lines, without a pause or punctuation at the end of the line.
What is the effect created by an enjambment?
It creates a sense of continuity, fluidity, or tension.
What is the effect of repetition?
It can create emphasis, reinforce meaning, or contribute to the overall musicality and structure of the poem.
