It is a figure of speech, in which an object or circumstance from unrelated context is referred to covertly or indirectly.

It is used to create vivid imagery - puts us in the position of the writer as it is like you are hearing what the speaker of the poem is hearing.

When the writer describes something by using opposite language.

It encourages the reader to think deeper about who is being implied, and get involved in the story.

It creates a rhythm in the writing.
What is an example of euphimism?
‘He passed away’, instead of ‘he died’.
What is the effect created by euphemism?
Helps neutralise words that can come off harsh to carry on with the current tone in the paragraph.
